Liverpool: Almost There

The Premier League Title competition is BASICALLY OVER. Liverpool has just beaten a relegation-battling West Ham 3-2 to move into a 22-point lead above Manchester City and only 33-points (11 matches) left to play for. Taking a step closer in their possibly multi-record-breaking season, and quite possibly their first Premier League Title.

If Liverpool wins their next 4 Premier League matches, they will officially secure their well-deserved title. Liverpool’s schedule is still very busy and challenging until they play their 4th Premier League match, because not only are they on the path to winning the Premier League but they are also in the running to become Treble winners since they are still in the Champions League and FA Cup competitions. They start the with Watford at Vicarage Road this Saturday and go on to play Chelsea at the Bridge for their FA Cup draw on March 3rd. Four days after the FA Cup draw, they are playing Bournemouth at Anfield, and then on the 11th are hosting Atletico Madrid, who are winning 1-0 on aggregate, for the second leg of the Round of 16 in hopes to be crowned again as European Champions. On the back of the Champions League match, March 16th they partake in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park, against an Everton team that will try their hardest to prevent their local rivals from securing the title with ease. To put the icing on the cake, they could, if all goes well, be finally crowned champions against Crystal Palace at Anfield on March 21st.*

Liverpool has a history of coming close to winning the title a few times. In (2001/2002), they came second to Arsenal by 7-points. Again, they missed out on a title to the back-to-back champions Manchester United, who went on to win it again the year after, in (2008/2009) by 4-points. The infamous “Gerrard Slip” against Chelsea that some say undoubtedly cost Liverpool their first real possible top-flight title by 2-points in (2013/2014) under Brendan Rodgers. After playing a very impressive (2018/2019) season, winning the Champions League, and an incredible Premier League run that resulted in losing the title by a point to an outstanding, record-breaking Manchester City. It should be agreed that Jurgen Klopp and his Reds deserve a Premier League Title and maybe more this season.

*Predicted on the basis that Manchester City does not drop points over their next 4 Premier League matches.
